On April 19, 1897, sixty-five prominent area citizens made a commitment to create an institution that would greatly enhance the enjoyment of their leisure hours. Their vision and foresight began a tradition of sportsmanship and camaraderie that would be built upon by those who followed. Today, we take pride in the legacy they left and comfort in the manner in which we have helped perpetuate it.
