A 3-day golf extravaganza, the Men's Invitational is clearly the most anticipated golf event on the calendar each and every year. Two-man teams are flighted, based on combine handicap, and play five 9-hole matches, over the course of two days, against other teams in their respective flights. Winners of those flights go on to the "Shoot-out", which narrows down the winners until a single champion is crowned. Great food, great golf, and great friends make this a GREAT EVENT, which was chaired this year by Rich Callahan, Bill Kline, and Jerry Popeo.

League of the Iroquois (1913-Present):
June 15-17 at Oak Hill Country Club
Men’s Event
Conceived in 1912 by Yahnundasis member Dr. A. R. Grant, the League of the Iroquois was officially established on January 13th, 1913 at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester. It is reputed to be the oldest continuing, multilateral golf competition in the world, junior only to the bilateral McLoughlin Cup for longevity of interclub play. The original members of the League were Wanakah of Buffalo, Oak Hill, Onondaga of Syracuse and the Yahnundasis. Some years later Onandaga lost interest and was replaced by Bellevue of Syracuse.
The present format has each 20-man team play the other once with at least 10 players being 50 years old. This team is called the “Warriors.” Play is on a scratch basis, each player competing against his opponent in “Nassau” match play with one point for the front nine holes, one point for the back nine holes and one point for the overall 18 holes.
There is also a handicap division called “The Braves.” Each team plays two matches fielding 10 braves each day. Foursomes consist of one Brave from each team playing three matches at one time. The format is similar to “The Warriors” (one point for the front, one for the back and one for the 18) except play is with handicap.
The McLoughlin Cup (1905-Present):
August 18, 2011 at Sadaquada Golf Club
Men’s Event
In 1904, a cross country four-man one-ball match was played between the Yahnundasis and the Sadaquada. To signal the start of the event from the site at Halleck’s Ravine, a balloon was released which could be seen by the spectators at Sadaquada. Each team took a different route accompanied by a member of the opposing club acting in the dual capacity of referee and beverage toter. For each good shot the team would offer a toast – for each poor shot the referee offered a toast. Not understanding the rules of golf, the Yahnundasis referee required Sadaquada to play one shot out of a creek. Despite that, Sadaquada won 131 to 150.
Inspired by the good feeling generated that day, John E. McLoughlin, a founder of our club and its president in 1906-07-23-24-25, proposed an annual match between the two rival clubs. The McLoughlin Cup, contested first in 1905, has continued uninterrupted since that time. It is believed to be the oldest, continous interclub competition in the United States…perhaps in the world of golf.

The Woodward Cup (1954-Present):
June
Women’s Event
Cromwell Woodward, who joined the Yahnundasis in 1899 and held a membership in the Sadaquada, inaugurated this event in 1954. It is a team golf competition played between the women of the Sadaquada Golf Club and the Yahnundasis Golf Club. Each club alternates as host. Those not playing a match in the team competition are invited to participate as boosters, with members of each club intermingled in each foursome. This tournament is usually played in July, with the winning team taking possession of the trophy for that year. This event is considered to be the women’s equivalent of the men’s McLoughlin Cup competition between the two clubs.
2011 WINNER: YAHNUNDASIS
Ace – Deuce – Queen (1961-Present):
July 8 & 9, 2011
Mixed Event
This special event was suggested by Mrs. John S. (Beulah) Fitzgerald, after they played in a similar event on the West Coast.
The team consists of a foursome: the "Ace" -- a low handicap player, a "Deuce" -- a high handicapper, and two "Queens" -- members of a Ladies group (either 18 hole or 9 hole leagues). One lady is a low handicap and the other is a higher handicap.
The selection of teams is made by an open draw during a Saturday evening cocktail party. On Sunday, a shotgun start begins play. The best ball of any member of the team (using full handicap) is recorded. Ties are broken by the traditional putt-off on either the 9th or 18th green.
CANCELLED FOR THE 2011 SEASON.
